Happy Friday, TigerShark Families!

Looking for a conversation starter this weekend about how school was? 7th Grade Math worked on Scale Factor; need an explanation on congruency? Talk to an 8th grade math student; 6th grade math can teach you how to find the area of triangles and parallelograms. Just a little sample of what's going on at the Lake:)

Parents, please be aware that a few students have decided to take part in the Tik-Tok One Chip challenge.  These chips can be purchased at many local retailers. The students are sharing them with their friends.  The challenge dares people to eat a chip covered in Carolina Reaper and ghost pepper seasonings, two of the world’s hottest peppers. This challenge is dangerous and causes a disruption to the school environment. Please take a moment this weekend to  speak with your student about this concern.

Beginning in October, Wilde Lake Middle School’s After School Intramurals will begin.  Interested in participating in the Memory Book club or Art Club?  Have your child stop by the front office to pick up a permission slip.

In Case of Emergency!

Every year HCPSS parents must complete a Family File for each child. HCPSS utilizes Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information. Thank you to all the parents/guardians who completed your Family File. We have 77% of our school with completed Family File information; this means that we do not have updated emergency information for 23% of our students.

If you have not done so already, please log in to www.hcpss.org/connect to complete or update your Family File. Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child, and can do so by logging in to HCPSS Connect and selecting the Family File tab on the left and then clicking on Family File. You can also get directions on how to complete your Family File HERE.

EOS: Equal Opportunity School Partnership with HCPSS

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) has partnered with Equal Opportunity Schools (EOS) for the purpose of assisting HCPSS schools in narrowing the participation and performance gaps in advanced courses on the high school level.

Because student data is involved, you have the option of notifying the school and opting out giving access of your student’s data to EOS. If you do not wish for HCPSS to allow EOS to view your student’s data, please complete this form by 5 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

Student data is used at the school level to support students in moving up levels, to identify trusted adults in the building to support students, and to receive student feedback to guide decision making.  For questions at the school level please reach out to Sikilay Powell, sikilay_powell@hcpss.org

For more detailed information please review this letter.
