WLMS and the National Walkout

Wed, 03/14/2018 - 2:20pm

Dear WLMS Families,

We want to share with you that we had a number of students participate in the national walkout today at 10:00 in response to the tragedy in Parkland, Florida at Stoneman Douglas High School a few weeks ago.  The students reported to the cafeteria, and they peacefully and safely marched around the perimeter of the school building, and assembled on the playground black top for approximately 35 minutes. The students returned to class after the event, and regular instruction continues for the remainder of the day.  Students had the option to participate or not participate in today’s walkout, and they were supported in their choice.

The WLMS Administrative Team and staff members communicated expectations to students and staff prior to the event, and staff members supervised students throughout the event.

We want to assure our community that the Howard County Public School System holds the well-being of students and staff as our highest priority. We continue to take a proactive approach to ensuring that each school is as safe and secure as it can be.  We encourage students who may be troubled by the events in Florida, or need an outlet for any concern they carry, to speak to an adult in our building. Our Student Services team is prepared to assist any students in need.

Please contact me if you have any questions at 410 313 6957 or anne_swartz@hcpss.org at any time.

Sincerely,

Anne Swartz,
Principal
