Report cards will be distributed to students at the end of the day.  Please take a few moments to sit down and discuss your child’s progress during second quarter, identifying areas of strength and improvement, and then setting tangible goals for third & fourth quarter.   The second round of parent teacher conferences are scheduled later in the school calendar this year (March 9 & 10).  If you have a concern about your child’s progress right now, do not wait until March.  Contact your child’s teacher or the guidance office to set up an appointment.  

We have an exciting line up of school wide events occurring this month  . . .

•    PTSA Sponsored Black History Month school wide activities inspired by the movie and book “Hidden Figures”.  The kick off of these optional student activities will occur on Monday in homeroom.  We have lots of fun prizes!

Dental Education/Screening/Fluoride/Sealant Program at WLMS

The Howard County Health Department in collaboration with Chase Brexton Health Care will once again be offering dental screening services to all students at WLMS.  If you would like your student to participate in the program which includes an oral screening exam, fluoride application, and dental sealant application (if needed) please indicate “Yes” on the consent form that will be coming home the week of January 30th.  It is important that you complete all areas of the consent form including your signature.  The date of the Dental Clinic is Friday, March 10th, 2017.  
Please complete the consent form and return it to WLMS no later than  
 Monday, February 13, 2017.  If you have any questions please contact the Cluster Nurse, Annette Grzybinski R.N. at 410-313-6957.                   

8th grade News:
Future WLHS students can audition for class placement for the WLHS Dance Department on Thursday, February 9th from 3-4 pm.  See the attached flyer for more details.

Spring Gifted and Talented Testing
WLMS will be conducting GT Testing for those students new to the GT program.  Students who are currently in a GT class, and/or who have already been tested in a HCPSS elementary school or at WLMS do not need to re-test.  Testing will take place between January 23rd to February 6th. PTSA News:

We will have our next PTSA Meeting on February 7, 2017 all are invited and encouraged to attend. We a lot of exciting events to share. We will have a shortened meeting from 7:00-7:35pm.

PTSA sponsored African American History Month contest….see attached flyer for more information.

MOD Pizza fundraiser – Stop by MOD Pizza on Wednesday, February 15th  and 20% of the profits will be given to the PTSA.  You must present the flyer in order for the PTSA to receive the profit.  Copies of the flyer are being sent home through homeroom, attached to our newsletter, or you can pick up a flyer in the front office.  Thank you for your support. 

Bricks -  200 Shark Bricks will surround the flagpole at our brand new Wilde Lake Middle School.  Purchase a Shark Brick and preserve their legacy. Shark bricks are $65.  The money raised will support novel supplemental programs, such as visits by local artists and motivational speakers, after-school STEM activities, enrichment programs by "green" experts, and other resources that will allow practical application of the green technology in the new Net Zero School (e.g. iPADs to monitor energy consumption). Of course, we also seek to continue to provide ongoing student activities, such as Back to School Night, Gotcha Store, After-School Enrichment Programs, GT Enrichment Fair and Family Progr ams. For additional fundraising opportunities please see the attached flyer and order form.

The Council of Elders Community Academy is sponsoring a session on Healthy Relationships and Dating Dangers.  This session will be held Saturday, February 25 from 9-11:15am at Oakland Mills High School. See the attached flyer for more information.

HoCo Panorama - Bring your island state of mind and join the steel drum bands from Wilde Lake, Howard and Centennial high schools on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at the second annual HoCo Panorama. The three bands will play Caribbean favorites like "Under the Sea" and "Limbo and Marianne" starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Jim Rouse Theatre at Wilde Lake High School. Join us for a great night of island music. Admission is free.
