Goals

Goal 1: Students will actively participate in rigorous lessons using analytical reasoning and creative problem-solving to promote reading, writing and mathematical skills.  

Goal 2: Students will acquire knowledge from the essential curriculum that will empower them to make connections and adapt to a myriad of situations.

Goal 3: Students will strive for excellence and demonstrate self-control, self-monitoring and advocacy, and collaboration.

Goal 4: Students will select and use appropriate technology tools for learning and collaboration.

Goal 5: The WLMS community will develop a positive school environment through responsible and respectful interactions.

Goal 6:  Ensure instructional staff will have an understanding of the Maryland Common Core State Curriculum (MCCSC) Frameworks.

Facts
Wilde Lake Middle is located in Columbia, Maryland.  Wilde Lake Middle was opened in 1969, renovated in 1974 and again in 1998.  During the summer of 2009, Wilde Lake Middle went through minor renovations receiving fresh paint inside and out and a few more walls to close off the open spaces. Wilde Lake Middle School has a diverse student population and faculty consisting of 492 students and 86 faculty members. The Wilde Lake community is a very active and supportive community with approximately 313 PTSA members.

Students

Ilana Dingle and Jenny Haynes were selected as finalists in a state wide writing competition.

The WLMS Debate team defeated Hammond Middle School March 24th in an excellent, hard fought battle.  The WLMS Debate team remains undefeated for two years, with an overall record of 5 wins and one loss in the past three years.    

Tasha Powers and Meg Brinkman won 2nd at the county History Day competition for their group exhibit project.
